The recent volcano eruption in Bali highlights the need to carefully plan for your holidays including taking the time to consider estate planning documentation such as wills, powers of attorney and advance care directives.

Whilst the inconvenience of being stranded on holidays for longer than you planned might be a blessing for some, proper planning before your holiday will minimise the inconvenience.

A good travel insurance policy will lessen the inconvenience associated with disrupted travel plans.

Is someone at home able to assist you?

A power of attorney will allow a trusted family member or friend to make alternative plans, access your bank account, talk to your travel insurance company, and make changes to those plans more easily than you may be able to whilst overseas.

Planning for your holiday is also a good time to think about planning for things going wrong.

What if it is not simply a flight delayed by bad weather?  What if you get sick or injured whilst away? It is a good opportunity to ensure that your affairs are in order and if something does go wrong, your family and friends can carry out your wishes.

Prepare your Will, Power of Attorney, and an Advance Care Directive before you go away and enjoy your holiday knowing that you have planned for all contingencies.
