Changes to the Family Law Courts Announced by Attorney-General Christian Porter

Overnight, Attorney-General Christian Porter has announced plans by the Federal Government to amalgamate the Federal Circuit and Family Courts at the beginning of 2019 in an attempt to speed up the process of settling family law disputes.

This announcement comes part way through a substantial review of the Family Law Act and family law proceedings by the Australian Law Reform Commission, initiated by the Government (former Attorney-General George Brandis QC) in 2017. The Commission is due to deliver its report to the Attorney-General on 31 March 2019.
