Intervention Orders

Intervention orders can now be taken out by the police irrespective of whether the victim requires one. However, you are entitled to a court hearing.

Once in place, intervention orders remain in place for life or until revoked but the ability to have an order revoked is now far more difficult than it was previously.

While it may seem easier to allow the order to stay in place, you may later regret that decision.

The making of an intervention order is considered more like civil court proceedings and therefore the applicant does not need to establish their claims beyond reasonable doubt.

While an intervention order is not itself equivalent to a criminal record, any breaches of the order are
