The role of the SSAT is to provide merits review of administrative decisions made under any act, regulation or other legislative instruments.
The SSAT reviews decisions about social security payments, family assistance payments, child support, payments under the paid parental leave scheme, and student assistance payments.
The SSAT reviews decision “on the merits” which means that it considers the facts, law and other issues relating to the original decision and then arrives at its own decision.
Further information about the SSAT is available from their website.
