We are receiving so much news it is difficult to keep up, and we are still waiting on news about how commercial tenants will be treated.

The Small Business Commissioner has published a newsletter which can be found here : Small Business Commissioner April 2020 Newsletter.  He refers to the principles agreed by the National Cabinet.

The relief for commercial tenants has not yet been announced but the principle is that landlords and tenants should work together to find a fair solution.

I have heard that some landlords are taking an almost zero tolerance approach to non-payment of any part rent.  This is contrary to the above proposal.  Hopefully these are isolated instances and that most tenants and landlords will be able to come to a satisfactory interim solution.

The Small Business Commissioner is able to mediate disputes between landlords and tenants.
